History

Bradford West Gwillimbury is a town in the South-central part of Ontario in the County of Simcoe. The town is named after Elizabeth Simcoe. In the year 1991, it was incorporated as a town. Former towns such as West Gwillimbury, Bradford, and a section of Tecumseth township were joined to form the town of Bradford West Gwillimbury. It is located 72 kilometres north of downtown Toronto.

It began receiving settlers from as early as the 1700s with immigrants from the Red River Colony coming to Bradford in 1819. The town is adjacent to Holland river making it a very productive agricultural area.

Population

In 1873, Bradford was a village with an estimated population of 2,000 people. However, this number has significantly changed with the town’s population currently standing at 29,832 according to 2016 census documents. The population can be said to have grown steadily over that period. It comprises of people from all parts of the world. Also, the town’s population is made up of young people. Most people are between the age of 0-49 years with people over 80 years being very few.

Transport

On its southern border, highway 400 and highway 9 are used to serve the town. Apart from these highways, people can also access the town via Simcoe county roads. They include Holland Street West and East, Simcoe road, among others. Additionally, the town is accessible through a train or a bus where GO Transit serves it.

Security

According to Statistics Canada, the town is among the safest places in the country. For instance, there has been only one isolated case of homicide since 2017, putting the homicide rate at 1.48 for every 100,000 people. However, it was noted that the violent crime rate was up but still below provincial and national rates.

If you are looking for a beautiful place to spend some quality time alone, with family, or with friends, look no further. The creek is minutes away from the centre of the town. This makes it highly accessible to people using different modes of transport. The conservation area covers approximately 530 acres offering some of the best walking trails.

3. Bradford Escape Academy

If you like solving puzzles, then this is a must-visit place. It offers the best challenges both for beginners and experienced people. The fact that it has an option where two people can go and try solve the puzzles makes it stand out among the competition. It provides the best site to host a family day out or a couples night.

4. Fairy Lake Park

This park is an excellent spot for people who want to sit down and relax. It has good trails where a person can take short strolls while watching geese and ducks in the background. Being close to Newmarket, people can access various restaurants with ease.

Economic Growth

Bradford has been labelled the fastest growing town in all of Simcoe county. The growth makes it an ideal place to invest in real estate.
